WHO AM I?

Freddy started his musical journey taking lessons for guitar for three years. After the first year of his guitar lessons, he found an interest in the electric bass since his Junior High School Jazz Band was in need of a bass player. Studying both bass and guitar, Freddy saw a high demand for bass players and knew that he would have more opportunities to play if he focused his studies on bass. Freddy graduated from Fullerton Union High School who received many awards for his involvement in the instrumental music program. He is a member of their Academy of the Arts program, and earned the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for his four year involvement in their Jazz Program.

Freddy continued his studies of music at California State University of Fullerton and earned his degree in Musical Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies.  He studied Upright Bass with Jazz Bassist Luther Hughes and has performed in Fullerton’s Jazz Orchestra and the Fullerton’s Jazz Big Band under the direction of Bill Cunliffe and Chuck Tumlinson. He also has performed with a variety of Jazz Combos directed by the members of the Jazz Faculty at Cal State Fullerton including Kye Palmer, Ryan Pryor, J’Michael O’Neil, Francisico Torres, and Paul Kreibich.

Today Freddy performs Upright Bass and Electric Bass for many different groups in Orange County and LA County; he also teaches Upright and Electric Bass through private lessons bringing everything he’s learned from his studies and his experience from the music industry to his students. He has experience playing in multiple styles such as traditional jazz/swing, pop, rock and roll, and Latin music and continues to study in order to improve himself as well as to share the knowledge he’s learned to his students.

“As a performer, I hope to share the love and joy I have for making music to my audiences and those that support me on my journey. As a teacher, I hope to inspire my students to let their creativity sing through their instrument and to find joy creating music.”
